Tom McAteer

About Me:

Hello, my name is Tom and I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my page.  I am an experienced counsellor who has worked with people struggling with their own difficulties that leave them feeling stuck, confused or hopeless.  I help people find their own path towards a better, more fulfilling life, both personally and in relationships.

I have benefitted from counselling myself in the past so I know how important it is to talk to someone who you feel comfortable with about aspects of your life that are deeply personal and is causing you distress.  As a person-centred counsellor, I put you at the centre of the process, treating you as an individual with respect and dignity, talking only about the things you feel okay sharing in a safe, secure and confidential space, helping you explore changes you can make that may make things better.

I offer short-term and longer-term face to face counselling in a space where the peace and quiet is a calming and allows for more relaxed conversation.  There may be opportunities to explore the outside space near by while we walk and talk about what brings you to counselling.  Regular check-ins will ensure that you feel that you are getting what you need out of the sessions.

I treat you as an individual in an ethical, safe and respectful way.  I understand that there is no one solution that works with everyone and that you are the expert in you.  My goal is to build a therapeutic relationship with you, to understand and empathise with you and to help you believe in yourself and your potential to find a positive outcome that works for you.
