AJ Quarmby

Hello, I'm A.J. I'm a personable and inclusive counsellor, working confidentially with adults and children of all ages. I will help you feel safe, welcome, and believed… I will help you
understand and accept yourself, so you can adapt to life’s knotty stuff.
I've been counselling since 2005. My specialisms are: working with survivors of domestic abuse and sexual abuse; working with loss and grief; young people’s therapy; and the effects of faith. I've been a therapist in a domestic abuse service, in schools and a college
for autistic adults; and I was a family adviser in the Early Help Service. I’ve been trained to work with emotions that might seem frightening now, but can be a source of strength in future.
My work is rooted in finding the right type of communication for you. For a younger person, this might be through play or craft; for a young adult, it might be talking, or using questionnaires, or having a quiet space to draw.
There are three good reasons why counselling helps…
It helps you find words. There might have been a time in your life when you couldn’t talk… it felt scary, or impossible… but with a trustworthy therapist, you can find the words – your
words – to describe your experiences at your pace, in your way.
When there’s another person in the room, someone you trust who’s focused on you and ‘gets you’, your mind becomes wired in a new way – so you feel readier to deal with life’s surprises.
When I listen, it's you who decides what to talk about, and when to talk about it. I will not judge you or influence your choices. You are the one in charge; and the counselling
appointment becomes a practice for feeling in charge in the rest of your life.
