Sharon Dunning MBACP
About Me:
Hi, my name is Sharon and welcome to my profile page. I am a qualified, person-centred therapeutic counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, with experience of working with children, young people and adults.
Do you feel stuck in your current situation with no clear way through?
Are you unable to recognise who you are anymore?
Have you become stuck in certain behaviour patterns that you just can’t seem to break?
If you, or your child, are struggling with this, or any other area of your lives, I am here to help.
With over 20 years’ experience working with children and young people, especially those with SEMH (social, emotional and mental health) or other additional needs, and 10 years as a foster carer, I know a lot about working with trauma, attachment, and loss – and the impact this can have on us as we navigate through life. I have also worked with children and young people experiencing emotionally based school avoidance (ESBA). Over the last 6 years since my counselling training journey began, I have also worked with adults who have experienced bereavement, childhood trauma and many other difficulties, including (but not limited to) relationship problems, loneliness and depression.
It was after a particularly difficult time in my life, and after having my own therapy, that I decided I wanted to train to help others in the same way that I had been helped. I consider It a privilege to be able to offer support to you. Through working together, we will look at changes you wish to make in your life, exploring your experiences in a compassionate, calm and caring manner at a pace that suits you. Counselling can be challenging and a little scary – I will be there with you to reassure and support you without judgement.
As well as talking therapy I work creatively by using play, imagery, drawing or other means, depending on what you need or how you want the sessions to run. I am trained in working with neurodiversity and inclusion and can tailor sessions to meet individual needs.
Contact me now for a free 30 minute phone or video consultation where we can start to get to know each other and you can decide whether this is something you are ready to do
