Rosie Firth - Person-centred counsellor

About Me:

Hello, I’m Rosie and I’m a person-centred counsellor with an emphasis on self-compassion and taking positive action.

I live in Bingley with my family and spend as much time as I can walking in the woods or enjoying a catch up over a coffee with a friend. Hot baths and watching TV help me switch off, but I combine them with more active hobbies such as writing, yoga and volunteering at my local park. I spent many years working in education prior to becoming a counsellor so often draw on that experience. Some days I feel strong and whole, others I feel scattered and fragile. I’m human, just like you. But I have learnt how to really listen to myself and help others commit to living a fuller, more rewarding life.

In our sessions, you are free to discuss whatever feels important that day. You lead and I follow, offering my warmth, empathy, experience and knowledge to support you and give insight when needed. I draw from different tools and theories, including those from CBT, Compassion-Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Transactional Analysis.

Whatever brings you to the point of seeking counselling, there is much to be gained, although it’s often not easy and the work will continue even once the active therapy ends. The rewards, however, will help to keep you motivated. And these might include the self-awareness that can stem from a better understanding of how we feel, what we need, and what causes these feelings and beliefs to form. We begin to live more intentionally, moving towards what we need and away from that which no longer serves us. Receiving empathy in therapy can help us to develop self-empathy which can be an important part of healing. I believe that insight paired with action leads to the most meaningful change.
