Ellie Kay

Hi, I'm Ellie.

I'm an ADHD, AuDHD, career and business coach. I work with adults who want to understand themselves better, recognise their strengths and find practical ways to navigate their challenges. I work with both private and access to work funded clients.

The people who come to see me are all completely different, but many start the coaching process feeling fed up, flat, overwhelmed, burnt out or just stuck. Many struggle with procrastination, emotional regulation, rejection sensitivity, impulsive spending, people pleasing or confidence. Some want support with work, changing careers or starting a business. Others want healthier relationships, better boundaries or simply to stop being so hard on themselves.

Many have recently discovered they are neurodivergent, but others have known for years but still feel like they're constantly fighting to unmask. Some have spent years wondering why things that seem easy for everyone else feel so much harder for them. I too was one of those people.

I was diagnosed with ADHD in my forties after spending years wondering why things that seemed easy for everyone else felt so much harder for me. From the outside, it looked like I was doing well. I'd built successful businesses, managed teams, survived cancer and even appeared on The Apprentice. But underneath, I carried a lot of guilt, shame and overwhelm. Guilt because I forgot important things, shame because I acted impulsively and took risks, and overwhelm from constantly people pleasing and trying to keep everyone else happy.

Receiving my ADHD diagnosis helped me understand my whole life in a completely different way, and that's what led me to coaching. I wanted to help others do the same.

Before becoming a coach, I spent over 20 years running my own recruitment businesses, helping people find opportunities that suited them. I also spent a lot of time supporting my own employees to recognise strengths they often couldn't see in themselves, with several going on to set up successful businesses of their own. Coaching felt like a natural next step because I wanted to help  people (particularly those who are neurodivergent) to understand themselves better, build confidence and move forward with a happier, more positive outlook.

I also have a good understanding of autism, as I have shared a house with my autistic husband for 12 years. It's amazing to see the different ways neurodivergence can show up, both at home and in the workplace. Living with him has taught me a huge amount about routines, predictability, communication, shutdowns, changes to plans and how easily misunderstandings can happen when people experience the world differently.

Through coaching, I've also worked with many AuDHD individuals (around half my clients). That's given me a real insight into the constant push and pull of having two different neurotypes pulling in opposite directions. Wanting routine but craving novelty. Needing connection but feeling overwhelmed by people. Wanting to fit in while also feeling completely misunderstood.

I've supported people to start businesses, change careers, gain promotions, improve relationships and develop healthier habits around sleep, scrolling and spending, but what I'm most proud of, though, is seeing people become kinder to themselves. When someone finally understands why they've struggled for so long, the guilt and shame often begin to lift. They stop seeing themselves in a negative light and instead focus on their strengths. Watching that change is one of the best parts of my job.

My coaching style is warm, honest and practical, with plenty of humour where it's appropriate. There isn't a one size fits all approach because there isn't a one size fits all brain. Together we'll unveil how your brain works, work out works best for you and what’s getting in the way, then develop strategies to make life easier.
