The background to Bingley Counselling Centre began way back in the early 2000s.

Brian became a grassroots football coach to his and Anthie's son. Having never worked with children, or even ever considered working with children, this opened up a whole new world.

Anthie was, at that time a primary school teacher. She later went on to work as a teacher in a special needs school with responsibility for the mental health of students and staff.

Georgina was a Teaching Assistant in  a primary school and took the lead in pastoral, emotional  & mental health within the school.

Brian and Georgina became colleagues when Brian was employed as the school's Health Mentor, teaching PE, delivering sports clubs and after-school clubs.

This role was developed into more of a mentoring role and he became aware that the challenges faced by the children he was supporting were often unaddressed mental health issues.

As a result of all three working in education, they all became increasingly aware for the need to address the growing mental health issues that schools were seeing. Very high thresholds and long waiting lists were unasailable barriers to many children accessing treatment.

"One in four of us will have a mental health condition at some point in our lives, many issues originate in childhood and stay with us throughout adult lives, unless address. Counselling can be truly transformational for many people. "explained Brian.

They each enrolled on different counselling journeys. These journeys demonstrated that there is also a need for increased access to adult mental health support.

Fast forward to 2025, with a wealth of experience and qualifications in counselling they decided that there is still a huge number of children, young people and adults unable to access the support they needed. Having helped hundreds of people over the years to overcome their experiences and problems, Brian, Anthie and Georgina are passionate about improving access to counselling for people of all ages.

The Bingley Counselling Centre aims to provide appropriate and professional, face -to-face counselling at a time which works for you.

The sessions are available mornings, afternoons, evenings and weekends to fit around your other committment.

We have a range of counsellors and therapists trained in different styles with different specialities and experiences.

We are always happy to hear from counsellors who would like to join us.

We look forward to helping you or a loved one.

Brian, Anthie  & Georgina
