I am an experienced counsellor having worked in private practice for many years. I offer a collaborative and gentle approach to therapy working with adults both in-person and online and also offering women’s outdoor/eco-therapy.
How I work
I provide a space that supports self-compassion and growth where you can trust that what you share will be held with care. I work only with what you decide to bring and at a pace that is set by you.
I use an integrative model in my practice, which helps to provide a range of resources that can be useful in supporting understanding and facilitating change.
Working together, we will first look at what you would like to get from counselling and then explore ways in which we can work towards this. For some people having a more structured plan can help, for others it’s more about having the space and freedom to explore experiences and allow things to develop more naturally. Both can be helpful and we can decide on our approach together.
What is eco-therapy?
Eco-therapy includes the natural world in the therapeutic work, recognising the importance of nature, and our place within it, to human health and wellbeing. Working outside also allows for movement and greater awareness of our senses and this can be useful in understanding ourselves more and processing the issues that we are working through.
Some find that it feels easier to talk and share when walking side by side rather than face to face and so this can be a way of accessing therapy if being in a room feels too much or uncomfortable in any way.
Who I work with
I have been in practice for over a decade and so have experience of working with many issues such as anxiety, loss, stress, depression, difficult relationships and relationship breakdown, low self-worth and questions around identity. I also have experience of working with those facing transitions within life and work, faith/religion and family.
Training and experience
I originally trained as a therapist over 20 years ago after first completing a degree in psychology and music. Since then, I have been actively developing my skills including training in systemic practice, transactional analysis and eco-therapy. I have experience working in several settings including contractual work for a number of organisations and charities and as an associate counsellor for a life coaching company.
More about me
Alongside my work as a therapist, I am an active musician both playing with others and teaching. I am drawn to nature and enjoy walking, camping and attempting to grow things on my allotment. I love to create particularly with paint, wool and clay or seek out a quiet corner to read, write and drink tea.
