Georgina Walker - Psychotherapeutic Counsellor

I’m Georgina and I am thrilled to be part of Bingley Counselling Centre. I love working in the helping profession as well as looking after my husband, teenagers and dogs. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, eating delicious food, keeping fit and breathing in the fresh Yorkshire air up on the hills whenever I can.

I have trained to work pluralistically with my clients. This means that I work with a variety of theories and tailor my practice to what best suits my clients at that particular time; we work collaboratively and review as often as required. The three main areas I have studied are person-centred, psychodynamic and CBT. I am also a fully qualified hypnotherapist – which can be extremely therapeutic in itself with lots of descriptive writing used to stimulate imagination, resulting in deep relaxation.

I am experienced and confident in working across all age groups. My helping journey began back in 2011, when I worked in a primary school for 13 years. There I progressed from assisting in the classroom, to teaching during Covid-19 and then looking after the well-being and mental health needs across the whole school. I worked 1:1 with children, as well as running anxiety, self-esteem & confidence and general emotions workshops.

I helped staff too and families by running a 10-week nurturing course with another facilitator. As I reached the end of my time in school, I frequently worked with children going through emotional based school avoidance (EBSA) as well as those with SEND and helped towards achieving some fabulous mental health awards. I have recently completed a Level 5 Certificate in children and young people’s counselling to match up academically with my years of practical experience.

I have previously worked volunteer counselling for Sue Ryder and still volunteer for Bradford Bereavement Service. I have noticed that there is a real need for counselling to be accessible for those who can’t leave their home or place of residence; don’t want to or cannot use modern technology. Therefore, I am open discussing options with themselves, family members, friends or carers. I believe that help should be inclusive - everyone should be able to access it.

Quite often, people come to counselling with something they’d like to open up and explore - yet find themselves going down different avenues – depending on what is happening in the here and now. This is all a result of feeling that trusting connection and a safe place to say things out loud. There’s a lot can be accomplished from being in a completely neutral and non-judgemental space. Time for you to feel safe to explore you, to free some headspace and make room for what is to come. In your own time. At your own pace.

I presently work part-time at a Hospice in Leeds as a Well-being Co-ordinator, as well as starting my own private counselling practice.

There are many areas in which I could help.
