Josie McMaster

Person Centred Counsellor

I qualified as a person-centred counsellor over twenty years ago, training in the relational approach which places great emphasis on respect, empathy and genuineness. I have worked as a counsellor in educational settings, charities and corporate settings.

Initially studying Psychology at University, I have always been interested in people and what makes us the way we are. Counselling training helped me to further develop my understanding and to use it to help others to understand themselves. With this insight and knowledge, it then becomes possible to address difficult and painful issues and find comfort within ourselves and our lives.

You and I working together in regular 1-1 sessions will allow you to explore your difficulties and painful issues and bring a peace to your life. Bingley Counselling Centre is next to a beautiful riverside walk, if you enjoy being in nature we can have walk and talk sessions. The gentle rhythm of walking can help to reduce anxiety.

Later, training as a mental health nurse and working with people experiencing a wide range of mental health problems, broadened and deepened my understanding of the difficulties we all face and the variety of treatment options available. Aromatherapy training provided me with another option for supporting clients, through use of essential oils and their well-documented positive impact on emotional and mental wellbeing.

As a counsellor I offer a safe, non-judgemental space where you can talk things through, be heard and understood, and begin to understand yourself more clearly. I believe the counselling process evolves with the client, at their pace and in the direction they need.

To start, we can meet for a free thirty-minute session to discuss what you are looking for and the support I can offer, leaving you free to decide if you’d like to arrange further sessions.
